Legality of Advanced Life Support

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I understand that there’s a need for attorneys and that many of the cases they handle are significant and involve human rights ; however there are many cases that they handle that have no merit.

Because of the complications of the legalities of the medical care centers every one of us need to make certain that our wishes are quite well known and documented in our medical chart per our sense of sophisticated life support and other end of life issues. Getting this done isn’t a difficult process and you don’t need to have a solicitor to do it ; however many folks put it off till it is too late or till somebody close to us is put into an end of life situation. I feel awfully strongly that I don’t need any advance life support measures brought to extend my life. I wouldn’t need to put my folks through this nor do I want to notch up intensive hospital bills lying in a vegetative state. So regularly when advance life support measures are taken there’s brain damage concerned. I have spent many years working with folks who had dire brain wounds and so frequently I see them unable to get over the things in their life that they have lost. There are multiple other folks that think that they wish to be kept alive for as long as practicable using any means available in the hope that medical advancement will find a cure or reversal for their medical problem. In the case of an accident that might happen outside of your ordinary medical service area the medical staff will connect machines to you ; however they’ll remove them once your wishes are reviewed from your medical records. These are subjects that are hard to talk about ; however at the time of an emergency it is sweet to have a signed document to depend on.
